Subtle ways to introduce colour to your home

colour into your home

For many of us, our homes are a perfect palette of neutral tones, pale shades and magnolia calm. But over time, this colour scheme can look a little tired and also gets dated very quickly. So, how about adding a touch of colour to home?

You don’t have to pick up a paintbrush and roller and arm yourself with an acid green colour in order to get this look just right. Just follow some of these straightforward tips and bring your home back to life!

Your skirting boards

Skirting boards are a common fixture in pretty much every home. They protect our walls from damage from the furniture and scuffs and marks from our shoes and over zealous children! Because they work so hard, it means that they can look tired very quickly. So, why not replace them? There is a wide range if skirting board options to buy online and they’re available in a wide range of colours. We’re not talking post box red, but deep shades of mahogany and rich wood colours that can really wake up a dull room.

Add a few throw pillows

If you’re looking for a solution that can be easily changed – should you change your mind in a few months’ time, then throw pillows are a great choice. Beautiful, bright pillows placed strategically on furniture will really make a room pop with colour. You could go for a solid colour, or something bright and floral, a bold geometric design or something else. It’s an interchangeable look that will work in any room.

Say hello to Mother Nature

Mother Nature is your best friend when it comes to colour additions. Fresh green plants or flowering ones instantly add colour to any room, as well as fragrance and personality – they simply tick all the boxes! If you don’t have a green thumb then treat yourself to some artificial flowers or plants instead, they’re much more realistic than they used to be. Just remember to dust them once in a while!

Light it up

Who says lighting has to be boring? If you’re unsure about accessories and how to position things, then don’t sweat it. You know that boring old lampshade that was there when you moved in? Well now is the time to get rid of it!

Head to a lighting store and treat yourself to a bright and breezy lampshade. It can be big and bold or something subtle and sweet like a geometric design in rose gold. The choice is yours!

Get on the floor

You might not have the time or the budget to re-carpet an entire room. And bright colourful carpets can often make a room look smaller. Steer clear of those old-style flooring solutions and opt for a colourful rug instead. The choice of colour, shape, size, texture and material is yours and a rug can brighten up any space. The living room, under the sink in the kitchen, the bedroom and even the hallway!
