It has taken us a good 3 months but the room is finally finished! I am excited to share it with you, all of Mr T’s hard work so I can’t take too much credit. The room was stripped back to concrete, so it was as bare as anything and needed a complete over hall. There were even very old built in (very badly might I add) wardrobes which we removed too. We moved the window as well due to an extension we are doing which meant cutting through the concrete wall, which wasn’t easy. So there was a lot to be done.
I felt I needed to just let you in on why it has taken us so long to re decorate the room, but that was because it needed so much work. My husband fitted a new door and door frame. It looks so lovely in there. It has even spurred us on to now move onto our hallway. Which is still stripped to concrete and we haven’t moved forward with that any further just yet.
Now that you know the hard work behind the room, I am more then excited to let you inside and to come and take a look around. I wanted the room to be bright and full of colour, but, I also love grey and white so I wanted in incorporate that into the room. We went with a grey blind, grey carpet and grey letter names which are above their bed, with white walls. I then brightened the room up with bright duvets, ornaments, books and frames. We purchased the blind from Blinds247, it was custom measured and fitted in the window perfectly we were really pleased with the quality of the blind as far as blinds go.
This is Sophia’s side of the room, the beds were previously used as bunk beds, but I much prefer having both of them separated. They are easier to make and they both sleep better on the same level.
The beautiful garland I purchased from The Felt Co. Which is an Esty store. I was so impressed with the quality of the garland. What first drew me to The Felt Co’s designs was the bright colours and I loved the tropical theme too.
The children have so many books, and one of their favourite things is for me to read to them so I liked the idea of having their books easily accessible for them. They have so many books that a lot of them are stored above their wardrobes. I plan on rotating them every so often. I did choose some of their favourites which I put above their beds. The light and the shelf are from Ikea.
Archie’s side of the room is very similar if not exactly the same as Sophia’s. I did this purposefully. I didn’t want the room gender specific. I also didn’t want them to think one side was better then the other, they always want what the other has.
The duvet sets are from Ikea I have been eyeing them up for a while, but couldn’t see them available to purchase online. Luckily when I visited the store they had a few in stock!
I also bought Archie a garland and just adjusted the characters on the garland. His favourite book is ‘The snail and the whale’ So I think it is quite fitting I got a palm tree on his garland. He is very pleased with it. He calls the cactus a “clactus” which is so cute and so funny. I don’t think I am going to correct him just yet!
When I first started designing their room I was going to go for a cactus theme as both of them absolutely love watering my cactuses which are in our kitchen with a teaspoon. And Sophia was so pleased with the idea. But that would have meant the room would be just green white and grey and I wanted more colour then that. I did add some cactuses of their own. Which they are both so pleased about.
Above their headboard I have made a little feature which is quite simple but adds a little bit of personality to their sides of the room. I purchased the fabric letters from a lovely seller on Etsy. They are handmade, and I am so pleased with the quality.
For the frames I purchased the ‘You are my sunshine’ from Etsy and Archies’s ‘I love you to the moon and back’. The other pictures in the green frames I found tumbler images on google and printed them off.
That pretty much sums up the children’s room. I am so pleased it is finally finished and they can use it and have their own space. It feels so lovely to all have our own space again. The children are so pleased with it and it was all finished and ready for the start of the new school year. Now onto the next project!
