It will be mine and Daniel’s 5th wedding anniversary this year. How has it been five years already? I cant believe how quickly it has gone. It seems like just yesterday we were standing face to face ready to say our vows. Time really does go so quickly doesn’t it?
As a little girl I remember imaging I would get married but in all honesty I was more interested in playing outdoors. I think it is both fascinating and beautiful how two people can decide to spend the rest of their lives together. I also feel extremely lucky to have found the person that I want to spend the rest of my life with. I didn’t ever see myself in the position I am in now with such a great man by my side. We married when I was 23 and he 25. In todays society that may seem quite young. But we had already had Sophia and it seemed like the right next step for both of us. I definitely think the saying when you know, you know… is very true especially for me.
Marriage itself is not exactly how I pictured it but I can honestly say it is even better then I had imagined. Some how my husband has managed to peel away every layer I built up around myself over the years. He is the only person in the world who I feel I can truly be myself around. He lets me be me and in every way he supports me.
Our life is busy, our Monday to Friday life is led completely separate. But at dinner time, in the evenings, and if we are both not working on the weekend we spend that time with each other and the way it is now, it works for both of us. We share the same family goals yet at the same time we both have our individual goals and to share those inner workings of yourself with someone you trust wholeheartedly and who supports you is truly very special.
With all that in mind, I honestly cannot believe this year Daniel and I would have been married for five whole years. That is a long time. Although we have known each other for 9 years this year I still feel with every new chapter of our lives I learn something new about him. We have effectively grown up together. I met Daniel when I was 19, it seems like yesterday. I still remember exactly how he made me feel and whenever our lives get challenging I take myself back to when we first met and why I fell in love with him. I think that is important, to remember what it was you first loved about your husband. And today the list is longer then my arm. I am excited to celebrate our five years of marriage this year and I thought in true anniversary style I would do a gift guide featuring some of the lovely products from the Uncommon Goods website.
They have some really unique and lovely items on there. Products you wouldn’t find on the high street. I love their mission, it was one of the things that particularly drew me to work with them on this post. Working to make uncommon Goods more environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and an ever more rewarding place to work. I love working with brands that pride themselves in taking care of the environment and the people they work with.
Traditionally the 5th wedding anniversary gift should be wooden. So I have picked out some of my favourite wood items from the Uncommon goods website to share with you. There is so much choice, you can either go for a traditional gift, or a more modern gift. I know that getting someone an anniversary gift can be hard as by the 5th year most people have their homes set up and so it is nice to get a gift that is unique.
The designer David Rasmussen handmade these glasses. I think they are beautiful and would make a lovely gift especially if the couple are eco enthusiasts. I love that they also have a modern twist.
This four across game is made from birch wood and is made by a couple. I think not only would a lighthearted game with your partner be fun but this would look lovely on display.
I love that this chopping board adds a personal touch. I think this will make such a lovely keepsake.
I think some lovely black and white photos of the wedding day would look beautiful in these rustic frames.
I think this is such a fun and lovely handmade gift.
Wedding Anniversaries are so much fun and something to celebrate, I look forward to celebrating ours later this year. The gift guide above offers you just a small insight into what Uncommon Goods have to offer on their website. I love that the gifts are handmade and there is a small bio and information on the seller and where the item has been made.
